Inner ear Implant against Tinnitus
As could be read in the medical press (you find 3 articles on this topic on the right-hand side of this page) research results show a further field of use for cochlear implants.
It is said not only to help patients hear again but also in the case of tinnitus to make disappear the disturbing noise signal. Prof. Laszig presented the procedure on the occasion of the 80th yearly congregation of the German Society for ENT medicine and head- and neck surgery to the gathering of medical specialists.

Using Implants against Tinnitus
Freiburg/Rostock . (dpa/lsw) Research shows that the insertion of an implant into the cochlea can help many thousand people who are suffering from tinnitus. The new procedure is said to be suitable for people who are unilaterally deaf and have tinnitus on the ear concerned, says the Director of the Freiburg ENT Clinic, Roland Laszig. The treatment that is still in research stage and will be presented in two weeks in Rostock at the 80th yearly congregation of the German Society for ENT medicine has even two advantages. The tinnitus noise is suppressed and the patients can hear again with the so far deaf ear. “We have achieved excellent results with this revolutionary method” said Laszig.

Rostock (NNN). Every fifth German citizen is suffering from chronic tinnitus, a constant ringing noise in the ear. The use of a cochlear implant brings new hope to many people concerned. This will be a topic at the 80th yearly congregation of the German Society for ENT medicine and head- and neck surgery from 20 to 24 May at the Hansemesse Schmarl, where at the same time the 9th care day (Pflegetag) is taking place. “The standard tinnitus patient hears the noise in evenings when it is getting quiet and the daily noises have stopped”, says Prof. Dr. Roland Laszig. “After the implantation the patients can hear and the tinnitus is gone.” With 745 individual presentations and 60 courses and seminars this is one of the major educational congresses for medical professionals in Germany.
